Case against Huskers' Opitz is dropped

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A University of Nebraska baseball player won't have to go to court to face a misdemeanor assault charge.  Last week, prosecutors asked a Lancaster County Court judge to dismiss the case against Jake Opitz.

Campus police had cited Opitz for his alleged role in a dormitory skirmish in November. Chief city prosecutor John McQuinn says the person who initially accused Opitz has told the investigating officer that he doesn't want to press charges.
